Right Here Write

a networked sound installation, which sonifies personal SMS texts (using text-to-speech synthe-sizers), sent to the system by people via mobile phones. the project addresses the single individual, by providing the possibility of articulating a personal statement, and, at the same time, it deals with group processes that collaboratively generate an acoustic composition, by steadily ‘feeding’ the system.
participants send text messages (SMS) from their cell phones to networked computers, with a pluged in mobile phone. an SMS gateway server receives these messages and writes it into a txt file, which is then restricted with the last sent 50 words programmed in PHP. this text file is then used to synthesize sound by text-to-speech translation programmed in Max/Msp. the program reacts sensitively on keywords we anticipatively assigned for such an environment. whenever these keywords are hit, the program changes its behavior, and re-manipulates the parameters of the generated sound.

project: programmed installation, competition submission
exhibited in Casino IT, Stuttgart
