m-a-u-s-e-r is a collaborative studio, established by Asli Serbest and Mona Mahall in 2007, to reflect and produce architecture in and through different media. Their projects include exhibitions, installations, stage and set designs, as well as video-texts, concepts, and publications, all of them showing enthusiasm for strange online and offline spaces, anti and rational modes of work, and fragmentary forms. Their aim is to negotiate the evolving relationship between architecture, art, and media society. m-a-u-s-e-r’s teaching and research strongly resonates with their practice.
They exhibit and publish internationally, among other venues at the Istanbul Design Biennial (2016), Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture (2015), Art Center Los Angeles (2015), Storefront for Art and Architecture New York (2014, 2015), Biennale di Venezia (2012, 2014), Vancouver Art Gallery (2013), Künstlerhaus Stuttgart (2013), HKW Berlin (2012), New Museum New York (2009); in e-flux journal, Volume Magazine, Perspecta, The Gradient–Walker Art Center, AArchitecture, Deutschlandfunk, etc.
They are the authors of a book on the speculative character of modern architecture (How Architecture Learned to Speculate, 2009) and the editors of Junk Jet, an independent magazine on architecture, art, and media. They have taught as professors of Foundations of Design and Experimental Architecture at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. Currently they serve as (visiting) professors of Architecture at Cornell University and of Spatial Dynamics at Rhode Island School of Design.
